The National Airports Corporation (NAC) advises airline operators, business communities and other stakeholders that the Hoskins Airport Upgrade Project in West New Britain Province is 78% complete and progressing steadily.

Airside works for this project sees Method Of Work Plan (MOWP) stages 1 to 8 completed, providing 1,280 meters of available runway.

Following approval from CASA PNG, NAC has further opened up Stages 9 and 10, increasing the available runway length to 1,580 meters.

Work on Stage 11 commenced on 27 September 2026. The extended 1,580-metre runway can now accommodate Q400, ATR-72 and similar aircraft types.

Runway upgrade works remain on track for completion by late 2026, subject to favorable weather conditions.

NAC will promptly notify stakeholders and business communities of any adjustments to the construction schedule or operational procedures. The upgrade works are intended to improve safety and security while increasing the reliability and efficiency of airport services.

NAC apologizes for any inconvenience caused by these temporary restrictions and extends its sincere appreciation to the travelling public, airline operators, stakeholders, business communities, and the people of West New Britain and Papua New Guinea for their ongoing patience and cooperation.

The Hoskins Airport Upgrade Project is valued at K51.70 million. It is implemented by NAC under the Civil Aviation Development Investment Project II (CADIP II), funded by the Government of Papua New Guinea and Asian Development Bank.
