Mt. Hagen (Kagamuga) Airport runway pavement repairs commence on June 04th 2026

The National Airports Corporation (NAC) advises the traveling public and stakeholders that the Asphalt Overlay and Associated works at Mt. Hagen (Kagamuga) Airport is scheduled to commence this Thursday 04th June 2026 and will take approximately 9 months to complete, weather permitting.

These essential works are necessary to ensure that the A220 / B737 operates into Mt. Hagen (Kagamuga) Airport by December 2026.

The upgrade of the Mt Hagen Airport runway to asphalt concrete overlay, is among the top priorities driven by the NAC Board to create sustainable airports that meet the growing demand for air travel in the country while supporting economic growth.

NAC Acting Managing Director and CEO, Dominic Kaumu said that the works will be implemented in accordance with the required standards whilst ensuring that the safety and security of operations at the airport during the period of works, are maintained.

The work will be carried out on the central ( 18m) portion of the runway including turning nodes and taxi way B and will consist of the following;

■ Asphalt Overlay and Runway Grooving; ■ Application of new Pavement Markings;

Associated works will include Aircraft Parking Bays and Drainage Improvements.

NAC is committed to do its utmost best to ensure that the full runway length will be made available for B737 and A220 aircraft operations by December 2026.
