The National Airports Corporation (NAC) advises airline operators, the business community and stakeholders that the Hoskins Airport Upgrade Project in West New Britain Province is 57% complete, with airside and landside works continuing.
Airside works under MOWP Stages 1 to 7 have been completed, and Stage 8 commenced on 23rd June 2026 following CASA PNG approval. The current available runway length is 1,090 metres, allowing operations by DHC-8-300, ATR-42 and smaller aircraft only. Once Stage 8 is completed at the end of July 2026, the available runway length will increase to 1,240 metres, enabling Q400 operations.
Runway works remain scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, subject to favourable weather. NAC will advise stakeholders of any changes to the construction programme or operational restrictions.
The upgrade works are being undertaken to strengthen safety, security, reliability and service efficiency at the airport.
NAC apologises for any inconvenience caused by these temporary restrictions and thanks the travelling public, airline operators, the business community, and the people of West New Britain and Papua New Guinea for their patience and cooperation.
The Hoskins Airport Upgrade Project is implemented by NAC under the Civil Aviation Development Investment Project II (CADIP II), funded by the Government of Papua New Guinea and Asian Development Bank.
