The National Airports Corporation (NAC) has signed a landmark Service Level Agreement (SLA) with Niusky Pacific Limited, formally defining responsibilities for airside infrastructure and services.

NAC, as the airport operator, and Niusky Pacific Limited (NSPL), the air traffic tower service provider, both welcomed the agreement, noting that such responsibilities had not previously been formally documented. The Service Level Agreement (SLA) establishes clear operational responsibilities at Port Moresby International Airport (PMIA). While apron management remains an NAC mandate, the SLA formally specifies NAC’s responsibility for areas like aircraft parking, pushback operations, and apron safety, while the Niusky Pacific Limited (NSPL) Control Tower coordinates aircraft movement between the apron and aircraft maneuvering areas. The signing was witnessed by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) PNG, and supports compliance with Civil Aviation Rule Part 139 requirements which basically work to strengthen coordination and to promote safe apron operations. NAC Chief Operating Officer Manuai Kametan stated: β€œThe Service Level Agreement will establish clear accountability for airside infrastructure and service, encompassing instruments of landing systems (ISL), precision approach path indicators (PAPI) systems, runway lighting, and associated equipment.” For NAC Operations, the SLA strengthens operational safety, improves coordination, and ensures compliance with aerodrome safety standards as aerodrome operator.
