It’s the end of an era, and the start of a new one for the people of East Sepik province.
For the past couple of weeks, contractors have been demolishing the old terminal building to make way for the Wewak Airport Upgrade Project.
The last pillars and building walls will soon be demolished.
The old airport passenger terminal had been home to decades of memorable moments, the arrivals, departures, welcomes and goodbyes.
And now, the old terminal must go, to make way for the new.
Here is what’s new coming to Wewak over the next few months: ✈️ A longer runway (2,010 metres) so bigger jets like the Boeing 737 and Airbus A220 can land safely
🏢 A new modern terminal with better security and faster processing for passengers and cargo
💡 Better runway lighting for safer flights at night and in bad weather
🤝 Jobs for local people
Thank you to the Government of PNG, the Asian Development Bank, the East Sepik Provincial Government and everyone backing this project.
