The National Airports Corporation (NAC) wishes to reassure the travelling public and stakeholders that operations at Port Moresby International Airport (PMIA) remain normal despite haze affecting parts of the city.
NAC continues to closely monitor conditions in collaboration with the PNG National Weather Service, airlines, and Air Traffic Control to ensure the safety of all airport users. At present: • Flight operations at PMIA continue as normal. • Visibility remains within safe operating limits. • No flight delays, cancellations, or diversions have been attributed solely to haze conditions. • Air Traffic Control has confirmed that visibility remains suitable for safe aircraft operations. While haze and smoke can affect aviation by reducing visibility, all airport and flight operations are conducted in accordance with established aviation safety standards and operating minimums. The PNG National Weather Service remains the authoritative agency responsible for monitoring weather conditions and issuing official weather advisories, including those related to smoke and haze. NAC relies on this information and implements the appropriate operational procedures to ensure continued safe airport operations. Should visibility deteriorate below approved safety minimums, appropriate operational decisions, including delays or diversions, may be implemented by the relevant aviation authorities and airlines to prioritize passenger and crew safety. NAC wishes to assure the public that there is currently no requirement to restrict airport operations, and Port Moresby International Airport remains fully operational. Travelers are encouraged to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight information. NAC remains committed to maintaining safe, secure, and efficient airport operations at all times.
